The US Open Tae Kwon Do Championships is always an exciting competition. This year was no exception. Midwest TKD brought Wolfpack members Steven Thompson, Marshall Gaines, Bernard Trespeces, Caleigh Lin, Jared Lin, Gabe Mc Dowell and Selena Perez. We are incredibly proud of each and every team member that participated and brought their best to the event. Special mentions are for Jared Lin, who competed on this international stage for the first time and at such a young age. Also Marshall Gaines, another first-timer to this event, who lost in overtime a heartbreaker but showed without question he is ready to compete at this level. Lastly we are very proud of Gabe McDowell who brought home the Gold Medal in the Adult Fin Weight Division, defeating Egypt in overtime for the win. The hard work is paying off and we are immensely proud of the work and heart that our athletes display. We couldn’t be more proud and that goes for each and every one of them!

Charity KB Class to benefit New Hope Center for Grief Support

Thank you to everyone, parents and kids, that came to support the charity kickboxing class held last weekend. We raised $500 for the children’s programs at New Hope. The music was loud and the kids and adults had a great time kicking and punching for a great cause. Thank you again! Check out the photos below!

radKIDS and Elizabeth Smart

As many of you know Midwest Tae Kwon Do is home to radKIDS during the summer. Fighting Spirit Safety runs this program at the TKD gym each summer and it is truly the most empowering and progressive safety program for kids today. Make sure you check out the Sunday Detroit Free Press, January 22, 2012 for an article about Elizabeth Smart. You can also find it at www.freep.com. This courageous young lady was abducted at age 14 and is now 24 years old and a child advocate and spokesperson for radKIDS. The article is posted in both gymnasiums so make sure you read how she supports and has made the #1 goal of her foundation to spread radKIDS to all communities.

New Tae Kwon Do Class Schedule February 2012

Please note that the class schedule will be changing on Tuesday and Thursday beginning February 1, 2012. Check your mailbox for a schedule and note when your child will have class. If there are any questions or concerns please see Kristin at the desk. Also note the new White Belt class on Saturdays.

New White Belt Class

We are happy to announce that we are adding an additional White Belt Introductory Class to the calendar. The is class will be on Saturdays from 11:00-11:30am. The new class will begin on February 4th and is for children that are 10th geup (solid white) or 9th geup (white w/yellow stripe). On days when there is a scheduled belt exam there will be no group classes, Open or White Belt, as always but we hope that you will take advantage of this new class opportunity!

World Class Poomsae Seminar with Akiko Reyes

Thanksgiving Schedule

We are open for classes until Thanksgiving day. That means YES there is class Tuesday night and Wednesday night. The only class running on Thanksgiving is the Charity Kickboxing Class at 7am and this is a pre-registration event only. The dojang will remain closed during the weekend and reopen on Monday for regularly scheduled classes. Have a happy holiday!

TTF Tournament in Ohio

Check out some of the photos from the Ohio tournament trip. It was the first time we chartered a tour bus to get the competitors and their families to the venue. It was a long day but a fun one! Students competed in both forms and sparring and represented well.
